Revision history

Release 2.4, February 2008:

  • The MATLAB interface has been updated.
  • References have been added.

Release 2.3, September 2006:

  • A MATLAB interface for the problems is now available.
  • The web page has been revised. It is now possible, after registration, to run problems written in the test set standard on line.
  • Two more subroutines have been added in the definition of the problems. The subroutine settolerances allows to define vector valued input tolerances. The subroutine setoutput allows to define the kind of required output, that is only the approximate solution in the last point or all the intermediate computed values (for a set of components) stored in an output file that could be used to plot the solution.
  • One more solver (BIMD) is supported.
  • Consistent initial values have been recomputed for some DAE problems.
  • The reference solution has been recomputed for some problems.
  • Errors in the report and in the Fortran subroutines have been corrected.

The report of this release is still available as pdf file.

Release 2.2, August 2003:

  • Two more solvers (MEBDFI and GAMD) are supported.
  • Five well known stiff ODEs have been added: van der Pol, Robertson, Oregonator, E5 and Beam.
  • It is again possible to submit new test problems.
  • New work precision diagrams reporting CPU-times against the mescd (mixed error significant correct digits) have been generated for each problem (mescd is what actually the solvers supported by the Test Set try to control).
  • The reference solution has been recomputed for some problems.
  • All the tests have been run on an Alpha server DS20E, 667 MHz, and the related section, in the problems descriptions, has been updated.
  • ODE, DAE and IDE problems have been gathered into three different lists and link to separated pages reporting a short description, work precision diagrams and plots of the solutions.
  • A short description of each solver, together with its related references, has been added in the descriptive part of the Test Set.
  • Some minor changes have been made in the report.

The report of this release is still available as pdf file.

September 2001:

  • The Test Set moved from CWI to the University of Bari.

Release 2.1, September 1999:

  • The formulation of the Chemical Akzo Nobel problem has been improved. The problem is now an index 1 DAE instead of an ODE.
  • The DAE case with full Jacobian and banded mass matrix is now supported in the DASSL driver.
  • The plot of the solution components of the Ring Modulator problem is now correct.
  • A new problem, the Water Tube System, has been added.
  • Web server statistics have been added.
  • It is no longer possible to submit new test problems.
  • Some minor editorial changes have been made in problem descriptions.

The report of this release is still available as pdf file (1.9 MB).

Release 2.0, December 1998:

  • The drivers have been changed considerably. Now there is one generic driver per solver, which can handle all problems for which the solver is applicable.
  • A new problem, the Slider Crank, has been added.
  • Two more solvers (RADAU and MEBDFDAE) are supported.
  • The descriptions of the origin of the problems have been made more readable.
  • Quite some bugs have been corrected.

The report of this release is still available as pdf file (1.9 MB).

Release 1.0, August 1996:

The report of this release is still available as pdf file (1.0 MB).
